The History of SAMCA

The South African Motoring Clubs Association (SAMCA) was born out of a shared frustration among motoring enthusiasts in 1994. Back then, competitive events seemed to favor the privileged few, leaving many feeling excluded. Fueled by a desire for fairness and camaraderie, the MG Car Clubs took the initiative to unite, eventually forming the MG Car Club Combined Southern African.

This spirit of collaboration spread, leading to inter-club activities like the AHCSA National Concours and the MG/AIM Gymkhana. The growing community, fueled by their love for classic cars and diverse motoring pursuits, yearned for a stronger voice.

In April 1994, that voice materialized. A meeting was held, bringing together representatives from 11 different car clubs. The gathering solidified the need for an association dedicated to representing the interests of these diverse motoring groups.

With a clear vision and unwavering commitment, the founding members established SAMCA on August 20th, 1994. The association’s constitution, emphasizing club autonomy, collaboration, and respect for all motoring bodies, was adopted by the attending clubs.
